Turbines 6A – Aeroderivative Oil Monitoring
Turbines 6A – Aeroderivative Oil Monitoring focuses on the unique challenges of monitoring ester-based lubricants used in aeroderivative gas turbines. These systems, originally designed for aviation, are now widely used in power generation, oil & gas, and other industrial settings—yet they require a distinctly different oil monitoring approach compared to mineral-based turbine oils.
This course dives into the chemical degradation mechanisms of jet oils, including oxidative breakdown, hydrolysis, and coking. You’ll explore how used oil analysis methods such as FTIR, TAN, RPVOT, RULER, and MPC are adapted for synthetic ester fluids, and how to interpret the results to detect early degradation, assess remaining life, and protect critical turbine assets.
Whether you’re maintaining aeroderivative turbines in the field or overseeing oil analysis programs in the lab, this course equips you with the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions and extend lubricant and equipment life.
By completing this course, you’ll be able to:
- Understand the unique degradation pathways of ester-based jet oils
- Identify symptoms of oxidative, thermal, and hydrolytic breakdown
- Apply used oil analysis techniques tailored to aeroderivative systems
- Interpret FTIR, TAN, RPVOT, RULER, and MPC data to track lubricant health
- Support longer drain intervals and proactive maintenance strategies
